What are FND Connect support groups?

Local, free, peer-led spaces for people living with Functional Neurological Disorder — and the people who support them.

  • A welcoming place to meet others who understand fluctuating symptoms, diagnosis journeys and day-to-day life with FND.
  • Share practical tips, feel less alone, and connect with people in your area — at a pace that works for you.
  • Run by FND CONNECT CIC volunteer coordinators. Groups are community support, not clinical treatment or a crisis service.
  • Free to join and free to attend. No commitment — with FND we know plans can change.

If symptoms are new, sudden, severe, or unlike your usual FND pattern, seek urgent medical help (999 / NHS 111). Support groups do not replace clinical care.

Hi, I'm Matthew, the founder of FND Connect.

While I don't personally live with Functional Neurological Disorder, FND has become a huge part of my life. My lived experience comes from supporting my fiancée and my 16 year old stepdaughter, who both live with FND. I've seen first-hand the challenges they face every day, from navigating symptoms and healthcare, to dealing with misunderstanding and the emotional impact the condition can have on the whole family.

Watching them go through that journey made me realise just how difficult it can be to find reliable information, practical support, and a community that truly understands. That's why I founded FND Connect. I wanted to build the kind of organisation we wished had existed when our journey began.

As your Meeting Coordinator, my aim is to create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their experiences, asking questions, and connecting with others who understand life with FND. Whether you're living with FND yourself, supporting a loved one, or simply looking for guidance, you're always welcome here.

I firmly believe that no one should have to face FND alone. Every conversation, every connection, and every shared experience helps build a stronger, more supportive community, and I'm proud to be part of that journey with you.
