Why FND funding is different
Functional Neurological Disorder can affect movement, speech, sensation, seizures, fatigue and cognition. Because symptoms often fluctuate, many people do not meet strict criteria for NHS-funded mobility equipment or ongoing support — even when they cannot safely leave home on bad days.
Losing mobility or practical support costs more than movement: it can cost independence, work, friendships, confidence and mental wellbeing. FND CONNECT CIC raises funds so we can offer discretionary grants and practical support when the system falls short.
Awards are never guaranteed. Funds are limited. We use a transparent scored assessment and a final staff decision so requests are treated consistently. Full rules are in our Grant & Support Policy.

Who can apply for FND Connect grant / support?
Applications are for people living in the UK who are affected by Functional Neurological Disorder (diagnosed or under clinical investigation), or a parent, carer or advocate applying on their behalf. You must be 18+ or applying for a dependent. Full hard eligibility rules are in our policy.
What financial or practical support can FND Connect fund?
We may fund mobility aids (such as wheelchairs or walking aids), therapies and equipment, communication aids, one-off essential costs linked to FND, and other practical support when statutory routes fall short. Awards are discretionary and limited by available funds.
Is this the same as NHS or Motability funding?
No. This is a charitable, discretionary programme from FND CONNECT CIC. You should still explore NHS, local authority, Motability and benefits options where relevant — we often ask what you have already tried.
How much funding can I request?
Typical awards are modest. Current guidance is up to about £250, but the amount available depends on funds and the strength of the need. Ask only for what you need and provide a quote where you can.
How are applications scored and decided?
Everyone answers the same assessment questions. We calculate an internal score out of 100 to help staff prioritise applications. You will only see statuses such as submitted, under review, more information needed, approved or not approved — not an internal “recommended” flag. A score never guarantees funding; staff always make the final decision.
How long does a decision take?
Please allow around 4–6 weeks for a decision at present. Demand for practical support is very high, and awards depend on funds raised through donations, community fundraising and grants into FND CONNECT CIC. We review every application carefully and approve more support as money becomes available. You’ll get a confirmation email with a private status link, and we may contact you if we need more information.
Is this for medical emergencies?
No. If you need urgent medical care, use NHS 111, 999, or our urgent help guidance. This form is for non-emergency practical and financial support requests.
