Medical Advisory Panel

A small multidisciplinary group advising FND Connect on the accuracy of our information. Dr Ioannis Mavroudis, Consultant Neurologist, is the first member. We are now inviting GPs, occupational therapists and physiotherapists to join him.

Dr Ioannis Mavroudis

Dr Ioannis Mavroudis is a Consultant Neurologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds. He is the first appointed member of the FND Connect Medical Advisory Panel.

At Leeds he leads the concussion clinic and works with the FND service. His clinical and research interests include functional neurological disorder, traumatic brain injury, concussion and cognitive neurology. He has published widely in those areas, including peer-reviewed papers and books.

He qualified in medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he also completed a PhD in neuromorphology, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Alongside his NHS work he is Medical Director of Sigma-Pi Healthcare, seeing patients in Leeds and at 10 Harley Street, London.

On this panel he advises FND Connect on whether our public information is clinically fair, and on where its limits are. The appointment is personal. It does not mean Leeds Teaching Hospitals, the University of Leeds or the NHS endorses FND Connect.

A clear brief

What the panel is asked to do

The advice we are looking for

  • Read our public explanations and say where they are fair, unclear or misleading
  • Suggest evidence and wording for patient-facing pages
  • Comment on training and patient information before it is published
  • Advise on the limits of tools such as symptom diaries and appointment notes
  • Point out gaps in safeguarding and when someone should seek urgent care
  • Help us see the gaps between neurology, general practice, occupational therapy and physiotherapy

The limits of the appointment

  • Membership is personal. It does not mean an employer, a university or the NHS endorses FND Connect.
  • The panel does not run FND Connect, and it is not an NHS committee.
  • Appointing one clinician is not a claim that every page has been clinically signed off.
  • This page is not a way to book a member’s clinic. For your own care, speak with a clinician who knows you.
